The World Society of Emergency Surgery classification of liver trauma, also known as the WSES classification, is a clinical scoring system used to assess the severity of liver injuries. This calculator is applicable to patients who have experienced liver trauma, often due to blunt or penetrating injuries such as those sustained in motor vehicle accidents, falls, or assaults. 

The clinical utility of the WSES classification is to guide the management of liver injuries, helping clinicians decide between non-operative management, damage control surgery, or definitive surgery. It stratifies liver injuries into four grades based on the extent of damage, from minor lacerations to vascular injuries and liver avulsion. 

There are no specific exclusion criteria for the use of the WSES classification. However, it should be noted that this scoring system is primarily intended for use in the acute setting following trauma, and may not be applicable or useful in cases of chronic or degenerative liver conditions.
