The Modified American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) / Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Criteria is a clinical calculator used for stratification of common bile duct stones. This scoring system is specifically applicable to patients suspected of having common bile duct stones, often presenting with symptoms such as jaundice, abdominal pain, or abnormal liver function tests.
The clinical utility of the Modified ASGE/SAGES Criteria is to predict the likelihood of common bile duct stones and guide the need for further diagnostic or therapeutic interventions, such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The criteria take into account various factors including clinical symptoms, laboratory results, and imaging findings.
There are no specific exclusion criteria for the use of this calculator. However, it may not be as accurate in patients with atypical presentations or in those with other concurrent hepatobiliary diseases that could confound the clinical picture.
